Starlight Dance Academy

School & Staff

4 girls

Established in 2003 by principal Charlotte Boardman, Starlight Dance Academy offers a varied range of dance classes for children and adults, including ballet, tap, contemporary, modern and street dance.

As our pupils progress, we offer many opportunities for them to showcase their talents, such as Associated Board of Dance (ABD) examinations, the bi-annual Starlight Show, Dance Festivals, teaching opportunities, large theatre shows and a number of local events. Some of our students choose to go on to study dance at college or dance with national groups, including the English National Youth Ballet. For all of our students, we focus on making dance fun and promote it as a way of staying fit and healthy for life.

Starlight teachers are qualified and experienced in their field. Our teachers are:

Mrs Charlotte Boardman - Principal

LABD Bt, T, Md (Licentiate Teacher of the Associated Board of Dance)
NCSSE 1 AND 2 Cheer and Dance Coaching
DIP in Performing Arts

Charlotte has trained for 25 years in many disciplines and has attended top schools such as the Sylvia Young Theatre School, London and Spotlight Stage School, Birmingham. Over the years Charlotte has performed in many shows taking on lead roles in musicals and pantomimes.

In the last 10 years Charlotte has gained great experience choreographing many shows such as Guys and Dolls, Oklahoma, Sweet Charity and Something Wonderful. Charlotte recently co-directed ‘Hairspray’ with a youth theatre company in Banbury and this summer will be directing ‘Rent’ (School Edition).

Charlotte has worked in many schools teaching dance such as Winchester House, Drayton School (North Oxfordshire Academy), Magdalen College School and St Gregory’s, Oxford.

In 2004 Charlotte opened Starlight Dance Academy in Brackley which has become one of the largest dance schools in the area. The school’s achievements in the last two years have been extraordinary, with the school recently having the amazing accolade of winning in all categories at Leicester Dance Festival for the British Theatre Dance Organisation. Charlotte was also awarded the teachers’ award for ‘Best Choreography for inter and senior groups.

Starlight has just entered students for 83 graded exams with ABD (Associated Board of Dance) with 100% pass rate and many students obtaining marks of Honours. Also four pupils from Starlight were nominated for scholorships by the examiner with two of the pupils also successfully winning places to perform with the English Youth Ballet. Starlight has recently had the opportunity to perform at the Alexandra Theatre, Birmingham and Birmingham Hippodrome which was a great experience for all who took part. This has now led to offers to dance alongside SKY 1’s Got to Dance finalists Trinity Warriors (currently touring with Diversity) at Cadburys World in June; and next year we are going to be performing at Her Majesty’s Theatre, London.

Charlotte has now joined forces with a group of experienced musicians and directors opening ‘Brackley Performing Arts Company’ which will set to put on a full scale production of ‘OLIVER’ in a week during the Easter holidays 2013. This will be a great opportunity for local children and adults to join together in what will be a fantastic experience of musical theatre.

Charlotte was awarded accreditation with the ABD (Associated Board of Dance) as a Licentiate teacher this year and is currently studying for her fellowship examiners qualifications.
